Ready? Let's get moving!
Maersk Raises Its Full-Year Forecast to $14.5 Billion
Let's start with one of the biggest players in global logistics!
On November 5, Maersk raised its full-year EBITDA forecast to $14–14.5 billion, up from its previous guidance of $10.5–12.5 billion.
The company attributes its improved outlook to steady demand and high ocean freight rates, supported by congestion at ports. Additional demand is being driven by projects in energy, electrification, and artificial intelligence infrastructure.
For shippers, it's another reminder that international freight costs remain highly sensitive to congestion along major maritime routes. [1]
Shopping on Temu and AliExpress: A New EU Fee Takes Effect
Now for a story that affects millions of online shoppers!
Since November 1, the European Union has applied a €2 fee per line item in customs declarations for purchases from countries outside the EU. This comes on top of the €3 duty per line item on parcels valued at up to €150, introduced in July.
The new rules also affect purchases from popular platforms such as Temu, AliExpress, and Shein.
For online retailers and delivery operators, these changes mean additional costs that could ultimately affect the final price of international orders. [2]
New Tanker Incidents Raise Shipping Risks in the Persian Gulf
Meanwhile, tensions remain high in one of the world's most important regions for oil transportation.
According to Reuters and the United Kingdom Maritime Trade Operations (UKMTO), at least five vessels reported incidents in the region since November 1.
During the night leading into November 5, a tanker north of Qatar was struck by two unidentified projectiles. At the time of the report, details of the damage and the crew's condition were still being clarified.
The continuing incidents are increasing shipping risks in the Persian Gulf and the Strait of Hormuz, a vital corridor for international energy shipments. [3]
New Freight Train Could Cut Delivery Times from Finland to Asia by 8 Days
A new logistics route is taking shape in Northern Europe!
Maersk has introduced a rail service connecting Haparanda in Sweden, near the Finnish border, with the Port of Gothenburg.
The first train is scheduled for November 5, with an initial frequency of two round trips per week. According to the company's estimates, the new route could reduce transit times for cargo travelling from Oulu, Finland, to Asia by approximately 8 days.
The rail connection will also help avoid delays caused by winter ice conditions in the Baltic Sea. [4]
DP World Launches a New Shipping Route Between China and Africa
Let's continue exploring international freight transport!
On November 2, DP World announced a new weekly maritime service called China Africa Link, connecting China with Tanzania and Mozambique.
The route will include Shanghai, Ningbo, Nansha, Port Klang, Dar es Salaam, Maputo, and Singapore. Regular sailings are scheduled to begin in late November.
The new service will create additional opportunities to transport machinery, electronics, construction materials, and other goods between Asian manufacturing hubs and African markets. [5]
KNAPP Establishes a New Warehouse Robotics Development Center
Now let's take a look at the future of warehouse logistics!
Austrian company KNAPP has announced the establishment of KNAPPRobotics.ai, a new robotics and artificial intelligence center near Boston.
Working alongside the company's research team in Graz, specialists will develop computer vision systems, robotic picking technologies, and solutions for automating warehouse operations.
By early 2027, the new center's team is expected to grow to 30–35 employees. The main goal is to bring promising innovations into real-world warehouse operations faster and turn them into reliable, practical technologies. [6]
Good News: A Vital Delivery Will Help 3,500 Children in Laos
And finally, a story about a delivery that can truly change lives!
On November 2, UNICEF and representatives of the United Kingdom handed over 3,500 cartons of specialized therapeutic food to the Lao Ministry of Health. The shipment is part of an aid programme worth approximately $268,000, designed to provide treatment for 3,500 children under the age of five suffering from severe acute malnutrition.
The product requires no cooking or added water, allowing children to receive essential nutritional support at home under medical supervision.
Sometimes, the most important delivery is the one that gives a child a chance to recover. [7]
And that's a wrap on another week in global logistics!
International freight transport, new routes, changes in trade regulations, emerging technologies, and a story that reminds us once again: logistics is about more than simply moving goods. It's also about making a positive difference in people's lives.
